It was a little strange waking up this morning knowing we'd all be going off to different placements after spending all weekend together as a group. Andres was off to the Cathedral a bit later than us so he was grabbing some extra shut eye we all wished we could get, and Michael was spending his day at the Down Museum. The boys kind of did their own thing thing morning and us ladies decided to head to The St. Patrick's centre to grab breakfast and coffee..and also utilize the wifi. As of yet we still have no wifi at the house, Dr. Tim said he is trying to get that worked out for us, so hopefully that happens soon. We all had a quick coffee and bite to eat before splitting up to head off to our respective placements, luckily Alexis the Albany Young Ambassador and I were both headed off to our placement together. Not wanting to be late we headed out with about ten minutes to walk up the street to the Down Recorder, we were excited to get started and find out what we would be doing. The first door we walked in was actually the neighboring business, the front desk kindly directed us up and around the corner of the building. We both had a bit of a "well we are glad we left early" moment and walked up to the front desk only to find we were meant to be with Down News not the Recorder! The woman at the front desk gave Jim Masson a call and turns out we had gotten our wires a bit crossed and Jim was going to be collecting us from the centre. So we quickly headed back to the centre arriving back just as Jim did, he had a bit of a laugh with us about going to "his competition" as we had a chat over coffee. Despite the rough start to our morning Alexis and I quickly discovered our time with Jim was going to be a fun learning experience. Driving out to the Down News office in the business park I was very glad that we had met at the Centre as it would be quite a trek to walk there from were we are staying. While he worked on a few calls and things Jim set us to work on a few tasks, I was cleaning up his desktop and computer as he needed to move everything to an external hard drive. As we worked Jim gave us an overview of what he does and a little history of how he came to be running Down News. He also explained all of the politics and deals that go on behind the scenes, as well as the inner workings of how an online news outlet works and the difficulties he faces as the Editor-In-Chief. After awhile we took a break for a bite to eat, Jim was kind enough to treat us to some delicious haddock and chips at the local fish and chip shop. In the North we've been told this would be called a "chipper", Alexis and myself also discovered they are open until 10pm and much to our delight serve lattes and mochas. We stopped by St. Patrick's grave on the way out of the town centre, tradition (and the stone plaque placed there in the 1990's) say that St. Brigid and St. Collumba/Colmcille are also buried here. After some time to look around and a few quick photo's we headed back to the Down New's office, throughout the afternoon while we worked Jim would take moments to share about what he was working on or different facts about any number of things. It was a very informational day and I'm really looking forward to my next day with him. Our "work day" over we were dropped off back at our home for the week on Rathdune Grove and Dr. Tim dropped by for a bit. The group made dinner as we were all hungry and then Alexis the Albany Young Ambassador convinced us all to watch "Love Island" a local Reality show similar to like the Bachelor or Big Brother
